SARAH Lahbati is saddened that partner Richard Gutierrez is facing a tax evasion complaint in the Department of Justice.
Last Friday, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed a complaint against the actor and his company R Gutz Production after they allegedly failed to submit income tax returns and pay taxes in 2012.
It was alleged that Gutierrez owes the government P38.57 million in unpaid taxes.
The BIR also claimed that they reached out to the actor on their findings in 2013 but they haven't received any response from Gutierrez.
Lahbati, in an interview during the press launch of her book "True Beauty" Friday evening, was not able to hide her disappointment on Gutierrez's issue with the BIR.
The actress said she hasn't talked to the actor as she was up working since early in the morning.
"I have no idea. I just found out a while ago. This happens to a lot of celebs, lagi silang tinitira," she said.
Lahbati added that it's not her issue to answer and that she's certain Gutierrez will face the charges as he has nothing to hide.
"This happens to a lot of actors when we pay our taxes. I don't want to be negative about it because I know Richard will settle the issue. Surprised and annoyed at the issue. I haven't seen Chard today, I'll call him," she said.
She also articulated her support to her boyfriend.
"I'm here for Chard. I know he's going to get through this because wala syang ginagawang masama he pays his taxes so I don't know why this is happening," she said.
Lahbati and Gutierrez met in 2012 and are proud parents to four-year-old son, Zion. (SunStar Philippines)
