Saturday, January 29, 2011
BROADCAST Journalist and television news executive Charie Villa was recently appointed as the News Head of ABS-CBN Regional Network Group (RNG).
Villa, a former Reuters Manila Bureau chief, aims to strengthen the presence of the RNG's news organization per region and to make it more accessible in social media.
She will use her decades of experience in pushing for the development of hyperlocal content or news stories that focuses on the concerns of people in different regions of the country, especially on the 19 local editions of primetime newscast "TV Patrol."
"RNG News will go deep into the communities and reach out to the people to capture the real state of each region. But at the same time, we are also going beyond borders by going online, in order to serve Filipinos abroad, especially OFWs who want to be updated about their hometowns," she said.
In line with this, the new RNG Head will tap and train homegrown citizen journalists to contribute reports for television and to also provide content in the mirror website that they will develop for each region.
This website is said to carry local directory listings, business opportunities, feature stories, and discussion on hot issues affecting each region.
Villa is also proud of the newest development of his department, the "Bidaka.com" where local personalities who are successful in their own fields will be featured on "TV Patrol" in their respective regions.
The broadcast journalist has done numerous contributions to ABS-CBN News and spearheaded the network's website (www.abs-cbnnews.com). She is the former Head of ABS-CBN's News gathering and Online and Mobile Group. (Glaiza Jarloc/Sunnex)
