INSPIRED by its continued lion share in the external storage market, enterprise solutions provider EMC Corp. was bullish on its outlook for 2010 and vowed to provide better IT solutions to topnotch and mid-sized companies in the Philippines.
“We are very proud to say that despite the fears of recession, the company was able to withstand it due to the growing trend of virtualization in companies and ofcourse the continuous market segmentation the company employ,” said EMC Country Chairman Ronnie Latinazo in a media briefing recently.

Virtualization is the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of an operating system, a server, a storage device or network resources.
The usual goal of virtualization is to centralize administrative tasks while improving efficiency, reducing carbon footprint, improving service levels, reducing risks, costs, and workloads.
The US-based firm reportedly commands a 40 percent-share lead in the US$17 million Philippines external storage market in 2009 according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). This affirms EMC’s leadership position in the external storage market for four consecutive years.
And it seemed that the four-pronged strategy the company employed in March last year worked to EMC’s favor.
These include market segmentation, or moves to focus on mid-sized and growing businesses; identifying technology priorities such as information consolidation, tiered storage, deduplication, cloud computing, etc; undertaking partnerships including expanding a strategic alliance with Dell and Microsoft; and the establishment of an executive briefing centre (EBC) in Singapore to cater to Asian companies.
Latinazo said the company is growing at a pace between 30 to 40 percent in the Philippines.
The enterprise solutions leader also cited the need for IT solutions that involves better understanding of customers’ storage needs by taking a more consultative point.
First is by classifying their patterns of storage use and then advising them on how to achieve better utilization and energy-saving efforts.
“EMC will continue to work in close collaboration with key partners to deliver high-impact, high value and high efficiency solution towards helping customers build their next generation data centers,” the company said.
Latinazo said the company will focus on four specific areas this year: Virtualized (Internal) Cloud Data Center, Cloud Computing (External) infrastructure and Services, Virtual Desktops and Clients and Next-Generation Backup and Recovery.
Among the companies, which embraced EMC technology, are Philippine National Bank, Philippine Veteran's Bank, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., among others.
EMC has over 40,000 employees worldwide, of which more than 40 percent work outside the United States, the company said. It runs a lean staff of 53 in the Philippines with customers in the following industries: telecommunications, utilities, banking, and manufacturing. (Virgil
