Good food, fun finds

SUNDAY masses, family bonding over sumptuous brunch, an array of shopping items and kids loitering around are just regular scenes every weekend at the Legazpi Sunday Market (LSM).

Located at the heart of the Ayala business center, this parking lot turned market area, has been the favorite hang-out place of families and friends every Sunday for the past four years.

“We consider Legazpi Sunday Market as a family thing, you can see people staying on with all the kids and they eat,” according to Rosanne Hugo, one of the organizers and stall owner in LSM,

This barangay-run event for small businesses, which started with 70-80 booths in 2004, now has over 150 stalls offering organic materials, original and sometimes old family recipes and all non-commercialized products.

Hugo said the items and food you can get from their market are all unique and not available in the malls.

Because 70-75 percent of what you can get in LSM is food, the organizers had to implement strict guidelines in acquiring new businesses.

Hugo said they do taste testing first and they always make sure that no other store can offer a certain merchandise or recipe so that customers can get a variety of their products.

Sun.Star spotted stalls offering Mexican, Thai, Filipino, American, Italian, Chinese and Turkish food among others.

Organic diapers, handmade jewelries, paintings, native bags and wine holders, can all be seen in LSM.

With its expanding market, organizers and store owners welcomed the “Suki” Launch by PLDT and Smart Money Sunday morning at the LSM tent.

“Suki,” is the first business-networking site that enables entrepreneurs to interact and transact with their costumers in a social community-networking set-up.

“With Suki, small-and-medium enterprises can try to compete with big companies in promoting their products online,” said Kat Luna-Abelarde, head of PLDT-SME.

According to Hugo their hope is that through this “Facebook-Multiply-Amazon-Ebay” like site they will be able to sell their products in a wider market. (Glaiza Jarloc/Sunnex)
