Ka Roger Rosal is dead

MANILA — A popular Philippine communist guerrilla who served as the movement's spokesman for years and gave a face to one of Asia's longest-running Marxist insurgencies has died.
The outlawed Communist Party of the Philippines said Sunday that Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal died in a guerrilla zone on June 22 of a heart attack. He was 64.
The party delayed publicly announcing Rosal's death until his daughters were notified. But reaching them was difficult because of intense military operations.
Known for his trademark Mao cap, Rosal granted radio and TV interviews almost every morning during his heyday and often invited journalists to rebel encampments, unsettling the military. (AP)
