Aquino okays P10,000 bonus for state workers-A A +A
Thursday, December 1, 2011
GOVERNMENT employees could again expect a merry Christmas this year as President Benigno Aquino III confirmed that the additional P10,000 bonus will be released by December 15.
While the President has yet to issue a formal administrative order, he assured that the additional bonus in a form of productivity enhancement incentive (PEI) will be given to all state workers.
Aquino granted the same bonus to government employees last year by issuing Administrative Order 3.
The Chief Executive explained that the P10,000 will be on top of the 13th month pay and the P5,000 cash gift given to all government employees that are both mandated by law.
He said the first half of the 13th month pay was already given last May while the second half was released from the period of November 15 to 30.
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) earlier said the PEI would cost P11.68 billion and will benefit 1.67 million government workers.
Citing a "stable fiscal situation", Budget Secretary Florencio Abad earlier said the National Government will be funding the entire P10,000 bonus unlike last year where only the P7,000 were shouldered by the national treasury while the remaining P3,000 came from the savings of the respective agencies.
An employee from the Presidential Communications and Operations Office told Sun.Star that she is "happy" with the additional bonus granted by the President.
"It will be a great help to me because I could use it to buy my medicines and I will save some for noche buena," Imelda Escamillas said in Filipino.
She also appreciated the new policy in disbursing the money noting that she is assured that she will be getting the entire P10,000.
"The new policy is better because last year, we were not sure if we will be getting the P3,000 from our department because it was based on our office's savings. Luckily, our office had enough funds so we received it also," she said.
Escamillas said she already received the half of the 13th month pay last November 16.
All employees in the Executive branch, including those in government-owned or controlled corporations and financial institutions (GOCCs and GFIs), are entitled to receive their productivity bonuses.
However, to be entitled to get their PEIs, employees should be hired on a permanent, temporary, casual, or contractual status, and still active in the service as of November 30 of this year.
The full amount will be given for those who have rendered at least four months of service.
For GOCCs and GFIs, the amount will be charged against the savings of government firms, whether in full or partial depending on their sufficiency of funds. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
