CEBU CITY (Updated 10:45 a.m.) -- Seismologists have recorded more than 700 aftershocks since the 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Negros and Cebu islands late Monday morning.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) Director Renato Solidum, in a television interview, said that as of 7:47 a.m. Tuesday, Phivolcs has already recorded 745 aftershocks.
"We don't expect an aftershock as strong as magnitude 6.9," he said.
He said the strongest aftershock the agency recorded Tuesday measured magnitude 4, while the strongest aftershock on Monday was magnitude 6.2.
Phivolcs will send teams in the affected areas in the Negros island to further investigate and monitor aftershocks, Solidum said. (Sunnex)
