Special voters registration for persons with disabilities cancelled

MONSOON rains that caused heavy flooding in Metro Manila and nearby areas this week stopped the special voters registration for persons with disabilities last Saturday as the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Affected by the cancellation are the registrations for the provinces of Bulacan, Pampanga, cities of Marikina and Pasig and Cainta, Rizal, said Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento.
However, Sarmiento said that PWDs could still file their application for registration until October 31.
“The National PWD Voter Registration Day is just a special day for our PWDs. On that day, we honor our PWD voters as we highlight our shared efforts to ensure that no PWD gets left behind when it comes to their right to suffrage,” he said.
With this, Sarmiento urged all qualified PWDs to go to the Comelec office in their city/municipality or to designated registration sites in their area to register or update their records to be able to participate in the May 13, 2013 polls.
Originally, the National PWD Voter Registration Day was slated in conjunction with the celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week last month, but the poll body had to reschedule to give way for the general registration of voters in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm).
Election employees in non-Armm areas were assigned to assist in the list up. (FP/Sunnex)
