Alleged rebel officer arrested in Iloilo-A A +A

AN ALLEGED regional committee officer of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) was arrested by authorities on Friday, a police official said.
In a text message to Sun.Star, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., Western Visayas police director, identified the alleged communist officer as Mateo Nalagon Suarez, 58, resident of Barangay Carmelo, Banate, Iloilo.
Cruz said Suarez was arrested around 9 a.m. Friday by joint elements of the army and the Banate police station, where he is currently detained.
The police official added that Suarez is a suspected finance officer of the Panay Regional Committee of the CPP-NPA.
The alleged communist group member was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court 6 branch 21 in Mambusao, Capiz.
Suarez was charged with murder with the use of unlicensed firearms, Cruz said. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
