AN ALLEGED member of a "salisi" gang that victimizes motorists in Pasig City was arrested by authorities early this week.
Police apprehended Jane Cruz, 38, after she allegedly stole valuables and cash from the vehicle of victim Mylene Digos in Ortigas Center last Wednesday.
According to Digos, she was on board her private vehicle parked in front of Hanston Building when an unidentified male person informed her that the car's compartment was open.
When she stepped out of the vehicle to see the compartment, Digos noticed that the door at the back passenger side of the car was open and her brown bag containing her valuables were lost. The stolen bag also contained P14,000 cash.
The victim immediately sought the assistance of a patrolling police officer who was able to chase and accost Cruz, who had in her possession the stolen bag.
Cruz was not the first suspected "salisi" gang member who was nabbed in the area. Last August, four women were also arrested for allegedly committing the same crime against a motorist in Ortigas Center.
The four suspects also allegedly distracted the motorist to make her step out the vehicle while they take the opportunity to get the valuables inside the car.
Previous media reports said at least three other people were victimized by the same modus operandi in the past months.
A story circulating in social media also narrates an account of a victim of the same crime that also occurred in Ortigas Center. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
