Comelec hopes to complete voters list, official candidates before 2013-A A +A
Saturday, December 8, 2012
THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is looking to finish the lists of candidates and registered voters before the end of the month.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said they are aiming to have a final list on the candidates and registered voters as they plan to configure the official ballots in early 2013.
“We are preparing the listing of all the candidates and all registered voters. All of these are necessary in order to do the configuration in January,” he said.
Aside from configuring the ballots, Brillantes said they are also preparing to hold a mock polls as well as the printing of the official ballots in January.
“When we configure the ballot it will not only specify the name of candidates, but it will also specify the precinct number, clustered precincts, number of registered voters in that particular precinct that’s why we have to finish all of these by the end of the year,” he added.
On the other hand, he said preparation for the May 2013 polls is still on track, while admitting that it is becoming tighter.
“We are still on time, but the period is getting narrower,” he said.
The Comelec has been busy purging the list of party-list groups who are aspiring to join the next year’s midterm polls.
As of press time, a total of 83 groups were allowed by the poll body to participate in the May 13, 2013 polls.(FP/Sunnex)
