LP: Pampanga is no Arroyo country

THE Liberal Party-led administration slate on Thursday debunked claims of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) that Pampanga is an “Arroyo country”.
Deputy Speaker Erin Tañada, one of the spokespersons for Team PNoy, said then presidential aspirant Benigno Aquino III and his running mate, then Senator Manuel Roxas II, won in the vote-rich province in the 2010 national elections.
Citing official results, Tañada said Aquino topped the 10-cornered race with 327,666 votes or roughly 36.5 percent of the 914,787 total votes cast.
Gilbert Teodoro, whom then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo endorsed, got 280,462 votes or 31.24 percent. Former President Joseph Estrada, an UNA stalwart, gathered only 43,298 votes or 4.82 percent.
“So ano yung sinasabi nilang Arroyo country ang Pampanga? This is another myth which the opposition is trying to spread just to get the votes of the Pampangueños,” Tañada said.
Arroyo, who is currently under hospital arrest on plunder charges, is seeking re-election as congresswoman in the second district of Pampanga.
Earlier, UNA senatorial candidates said Team PNoy will have a hard time winning the votes of Pampangueños if they continue to attack the former president.
