Tagle to join other cardinals on Pope’s last working day-A A +A

MANILA Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has cancelled his commitments this week to join fellow cardinals in Vatican during the final day of Pope Benedict XVI as head of the Roman Catholic Church on February 28.
A source who is familiar with Tagle’s schedule said the cardinal will not push through with his Catholic faith dialogue with students of Centro Escolar University in Manila on Tuesday as he is “preparing to travel at that time.”
But Tagle’s secretary Fr. Reginald Malicdem said they did not receive any official communication on the supposed invite to the cardinals, who will also elect Benedict’s successor among themselves sometime in March.
While Tagle is set to be in Vatican on Thursday, his Filipino colleagues will be busy offering masses to the outgoing Pontiff.
On Monday, Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles will hold a concelebrated mass for the Holy Mother Church and for the resigning pope at 9 a.m. at the Lipa Cathedral in Batangas.
“The archdiocesan and parish council leaders as well as all religious congregations and associations, and school representatives are asked to be present. Please pray for God’s holy people and for its leaders,” said Arguelles.
On Tuesday, the dioceses of Cubao and Sorsogon will also hold a special mass for Benedict. The Diocese of Malolos, meanwhile, chose to hold a mass on March 1 or a day after the Pope’s resignation.
Also including the Pope in their prayer intentions in masses are the archdioceses of Manila and Iloilo, and the Diocese of Marbel.
