THREE suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels were killed in a clash with law enforcers in Cagayan province earlier this week, police said Thursday.
In a belated report, the Cagayan Valley police said two still unidentified NPA rebels were killed during a gunfight with troops from the 2nd Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) and Cagayan Provincial Public Safety Company (CPPSC) in Brgy. Lakambini, Tuao town.
Another NPA rebel was wounded but was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.
There were no casualties from the government side.
The Cagayan Valley police said that based on an initial report, eight NPA rebels were sighted resting in a residential house in Barangay Lakambini around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Responding operatives from the RPSB and CPPSC conducted patrol operations in the area and the clash with the communist rebels then ensued.
The clash lasted for about an hour, according to the police.
Recovered from the clash scene were M16 and M14 rifles, a caliber 9 millimeter pistol, seven bullets, two rifle and two hand grenades.
Police said a hot pursuit operation is being conducted for the escaped rebels. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
