THREE wage increase petitions have been filed before the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs), an official of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) said Thursday.

Dole spokesperson Nicon Fameronag said the petitions are asking for salary adjustments in Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, and the National Capital Region (NCR).

He said the newest wage petition was filed by the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) for Northern Mindanao last April 16, asking for P88-increase. The region had its last salary hike last July 24, 2011, which pegged the minimum wage to P286.

Last April 3, the TUCP also filed for a wage hike of P85 for Metro Manila workers in a bid to augment the P456 basic pay and P80 for workers in Davao. The region has a minimum wage worth P301.

Earlier, Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said there are no wage increases since the wage orders have yet to go beyond the one-year prohibition period.

The Metro Manila wage board issued a two-tranche wage order on May 17, 2012.

Meanwhile, Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada urged regional wage boards to immediately review and eventually grant the salary petitions of workers in light of rising commodity prices.

Estrada, chairman of the Senate committee on labor, employment and human resource development, said a salary adjustment would send a "strong message" to the world that the country's economic gains are starting to trickle down.

The senator earlier pushed for a P125 across-the-board daily wage increase for all workers.

He also recommended that the Dole inspect the payroll and other financial records kept by a company or business to determine whether or not the workers are paid the prescribed across-the-board wage increase and other benefits granted by law. (FP/Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
