MANILA -- Metro Manila and other neighboring provinces are experiencing rain showers and thunderstorms yet again as another Tropical Depression has developed on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) as relayed by Malacañang.
Pagasa said Tropical Depression Nando, which was located 295 kilometers (km) east of Virac, Catanduanes as of 10 p.m. Sunday, has slightly intensified.
With maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, Nando is moving northwest at 15 kph.
Nando is expected to be at 340 km east of Casiguran, Aurora on Monday evening, Pagasa said.
The tropical depression is estimated to bring rainfall amount from 5 – 15 mm per hour (moderate - heavy) within the 300 km diameter of Nando.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte told the public over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan to take extra precaution as Nando has arrived, only days after its predecessor Tropical Storm Maring caused massive floods in the metropolis and in several nearby towns.
The Palace official, therefore, advised the public to keep monitoring alerts from DOST-Pagasa and to always be prepared in case this tropical depression brings more rains.
“Galing lang po sa Pagasa, ang umaaligid-aligid po na low pressure area ay isa nang tropical depression at ang pangalan nito ay ‘Nando’. Nakikiusap lang po tayo sa lahat na antabayan ang sitwasyon ng pag-ulan dala nitong tropical depression na ito,” Valte said.
Pagasa said, affected portions of Metro Manila (Quezon, City, Marikina), portions of Rizal, Bulacan, Zambales and nearby areas within two hours.
“All are advised to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flashfloods,” the weather bureau said. (PNA/Sunnex)
