‘Nando’ continues to move towards Batanes-A A +A

MANILA – Tropical Storm “Nando” (international name: Kong-Rey) has slightly intensified as it continues to move closer towards the Batanes Group of Islands.
Nando is moving towards the province of Batanes at 15 kilometers per hour (kph), according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) latest weather bulletin.
Pagasa said Nando has maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph.
As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nando was located 160 km east of Basco, Batanes.
Meanwhile, four areas in Luzon are still under public storm warning signal, the state weather agency reported.
Batanes province is still placed under storm warning signal number 2, Pagasa said, adding that the province will experience winds of 61-100 kph in at least 24 hours.

Weather forecaster said the tropical storm is expected to be at 345 km northeast of Basco, Batanes by Wednesday evening, and outside Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday evening.
Nando will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
Sea travel is risky over the western and eastern seaboards of Luzon, authorities said. (Sunnex)
