LTO chief: Gambling video ‘done with malice’-A A +A
Monday, September 2, 2013
LAND Transportation Office (LTO) chief Virginia Torres on Monday said that the YouTube video of her circulating online showing her in front of a slot machine was "done with malice."
Torres said this at the budget briefing of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) held by the House committee on appropriations. LTO is an agency under the DOTC headed by Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya.
During the budget hearing, Kabataan party-list Representative Terry Ridon said in jest that staff inside the House of Representatives were looking for her during the roll call and that he overhead one saying, "Nasaan si Ma'
am Torres? Baka nasa casino."
"That is not considered a casino… I have requested the DOTC to make an investigation," Torres said.
In the video, the LTO chief was seen sitting in front of a slot machine at an undisclosed casino.
Abaya said the DOTC legal department has started its investigation although Torres was not advised to take a leave pending the conclusion of the matter.
"We're definitely investigating her. Definitely that's an issue we couldn't sweep under the rug. I mean, we don't sweep issues in DOTC under the rug. It is definitely going to be addressed. You have my word," the DOTC Secretary said.
Torres has been reportedly ousted from the religious group Iglesia ni Cristo after the video surfaced online.
