Don’t forget the pork scam, public urged-A A +A

THE crisis in Zamboanga City should not take away the focus of the people's anger against the pork barrel system.
This was the appeal of former Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president Archbishop Oscar Cruz, saying it remains to be the most important issue in the country since it involves public funds.
"Before you know it, nobody will talk about the pork barrel anymore. So, let us stick to this major issue of the abolition of the pork barrel system to safeguard public funds," appealed Cruz.
He said he hopes that the people will still go to the Edsa Shrine Wednesday, September 11, to express anew their outrage against the pork barrel and not fall for the "diversionary tactics."
On Monday, hundreds of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) forces occupied at least five villages in Zamboanga City and have remained with hostages numbering at an estimated 180 civilians.
The forces identified with former MNLF chairman Nur Misuari reportedly aim to hoist their flag at the Zamboanga City Hall to symbolize their declaration of independence for Mindanao.
Asked who he believes is behind the "diversionary tactics," Cruz pointed at "people in Malacanang."
"There are people surrounding the President that are very experts in these things," said the retired prelate.
"This crisis in Mindanao, this will surely divert the attention of the peoples from the pork barrel," Cruz furthered. (HDT/Sunnex)
