Comelec: ‘Still no premature campaigning’-A A +A
Sunday, September 15, 2013
Expect more barangay and youth candidates to pester their neighbors as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is not going to lift its finger against them.
According to Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes, they cannot do anything against those placing posters and tarpaulins bearing their images since they are not yet considered candidates for the forthcoming October 28 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls.
“Wala naman tayong premature campaigning na so pwede talaga nila gawin 'yang mga yan,” said Brillantes.
“Officially, hindi pa naman sila kandidato so hindi natin sila pwede pagbawalan,” he continued.
His statement comes amid the proliferation of posters, tarpaulins and other campaign materials of potential candidates in different barangays.
Based on existing laws, individuals can only be considered as candidates after they have filed their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs).
Under Comelec Resolution No. 9715, the filing of COCs will be from October 11 to 17 while the campaign period will be from October 18 to 26.(HDT/Sunnex)
