Comelec: Find your voting precinct online-A A +A
Sunday, October 6, 2013
THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Sunday encouraged registered voters to make their lives easier on Election Day by finding their voting precincts online ahead of the October 28 barangay polls.
The poll body said the public can use its Precinct Finder system available at its website, www.comelec.gov.ph.
"The Precinct Finder already uses the latest voter database for the forthcoming 2013 Barangay Elections, as submitted by the local Comelec offices nationwide," said the Comelec.
The Precinct Finder only requires the registered voter to provide his/her full name and Date of Birth in order to find his/her precinct.
The system will then provide the voter with the details on his/her voting center, precinct number, registration status, and even voters’ ID status.
However, the poll body said precincts from five municipalities are still unavailable in the system.
These are San Jose, Nothern Samar; Basey, Samar; Parang, Sulu; Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte; and Bacolor, Pampanga.
Every election, finding precincts have been perennial problems for thousands of registered voters.
Meanwhile, the Comelec is also urging the public to check the list of three-term barangay officials who are already disqualified from running in the barangay elections by browsing through on the list provided in its website.
According to the commission, they are hoping that the public will use the system to encourage the immediate filing of disqualification cases against those that will still file their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) despite being included in the list.
"The Commission calls upon the public to take action by browsing through the list provided by the DILG of possible candidates who are barred from running under the three-term rule," said the Comelec.
Section 2 of Republic Act 9164 or An Act Providing for the Synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections states that "no barangay elective official shall serve for more than three consecutive terms in the same position."
Aside from the early lodging of disqualification cases, Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said they are hoping that the candidates themselves will be discouraged from still attempting to run.
"If you are a three-termer, don’t bother to file anymore. Even if you decide to file your COC, we will still disqualify you," said Brillantes. (HDT/Sunnex)
