A SUSPECTED leader of an illegal drug-trading group and several others were arrested on Wednesday in a raid of a drug den beside the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) main office in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City.
The suspects were identified as Jeffrey Abad, 22, leader of the Abad drug group; and the group's members Christian Gayula, 31; Nestor Evina, 46; and Romero Evina, 22.
Also arrested were Gerry Vallecera and a certain Ate Guy, 40, both visitors of the drug den supposedly maintained by Abad, Gayula and the Evinas.
The suspects are all residents of the Informal Settler's Compound, NIA Northside Road, Barangay Pinyahan, which was the area of the group's illegal drug trading operation, said PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac Jr.
The operation was conducted on the strength of a search warrant issued by Judge Fernando Sagun Jr. of Quezon City Regional Trial Court branch 78.
"Matagal na naming silang minaman-manan because of the probable cause an the reason to believe, sabi nga ng ating Director General Cacdac dapat linisin muna natin ‘yung nasa paligid natin. Katabi lang nang opisina naming itong drug den na ito kaya dapat lang na linisin na naming sila," Director Derrick Arnold Carreon of PDEA Public Information office said in a phone interview.
Recovered from suspects were four sachets of suspected shabu and several drug paraphernalia.
"Hindi pa natin identified ang amount ng confiscated paraphernalia and we were also discouraged to disclose those kind of information. Kasi sa ganyan din naaakit ang mga tao. Iniisip nila na ganoon pala ang kita sa maliit na plastic ng shabu," Carreon said.
All suspects are facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Sunnex)
