Manila donates P16M for Yolanda victims-A A +A
Thursday, December 5, 2013
THE City Council of Manila approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Joseph Estrada to donate P16 million in cash to the towns in Eastern Visayas devastated by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
Vice Mayor Isko Moreno said the council unanimously voted on the resolution allowing the cash donations to the towns of Javier in Leyte, Guiuan in Eastern Samar and the worst-hit Tacloban City.
Moreno said P10 million will be given to Tacloban, while P5 million and P1 million each will go to Javier and Guiuan towns, respectively.
"The typhoon caught us all by surprise that a day after the storm's fury, many communities were virtually leveled with unimaginable destruction and loss of lives and property," the resolution stated.
It added that Manila being the country's capital should render immediate assistance and adopt towns badly hit by Yolanda's wrath until the residents finally recovered from the disaster. (Sunnex)
