SEVEN civilian informants of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Monday received P4.3 million cash reward under its "Operation Private Eye" (OPE).
During the agency's flag ceremony, PDEA Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr. personally awarded the P4.3 million to informants identified through their codenames as Segul, Mac-mac, Balik Loob, Ebok, Coca, Cold Ice and Jows, all wearing ski masks to hide their identity.
The informants aided the PDEA in gathering information, which led to successful arrests of several high profile drug personalities.
The PDEA's OPE is a reward and incentive scheme of the agency designed to encourage private citizens to report any suspected illegal drug activities in their community.
The Private Eye Rewards Committee, which was composed of members from a non-government organizations, academe, religious, law enforcement and business sectors went through a keen deliberation after having the resolution of granting a total of P4,396,663.40 million monetary rewards to the 7 informants had been approved.
"We protect the identity of our informants, maigting ang ang paghahandle namin ng mga identity nila para sa kapakanan nila at ng kanilang pamilya," Cacdac told Sun.Star in a phone interview.
Among the informants, Jows received the biggest cash reward amounting to P1,556,995.63 million.
Jows provided information that led to the confiscation of 36.7 kilos of shabu and the arrest of a Chinese national and his Filipino cohort on November 29 in Mexico Pampanga.
"The increasing reports that PDEA is receiving, particularly through our OPE, is a positive indication that we enjoy the trust and confidence of the public. Rest assured that PDEA shall strive harder to sustain that confidence," Cacdac said.
Cacdac said the agency will continue to reward the informants under OPE to encourage citizens to report a suspected drug activity in the country and to assure the arrest of drug personalities.
Last week, 22 civilian informants also received over P12.9 million in cash reward under the same program of PDEA. (Sunnex)
