Aquino thanks Ban Ki-Moon for help to typhoon-hit areas-A A +A

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III on Sunday personally thanked United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon for the assistance that the agency has been extending to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) that struck the country last month.
The UN chief called on Aquino in Malacanang where they also discussed the planned rehabilitation in Yolanda-hit areas, said deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte in an interview over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan.
"Sa atin pong impormasyon ay inuna po ng Pangulong Aquino ang pasasalamat kay Ginoong Ban para po sa suporta ng United Nations para doon po sa ating mga efforts for relief and rehabilitation, at nagbigay din po ng mariing pasasalamat ang ating Pangulo sa pagbisita po ni Ginoong Ban dito sa ating bansa, at iyong for showing concern for our people," she said.
The UN Secretary-General arrived in the country Friday evening and he will be here until Sunday to personally assess the damage brought by the typhoon.
Among the Cabinet members who joined the President in his meeting with the UN Secretary-General were Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, Cabinet Secretary Jose Rene Almendras, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman and Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan.
After his meeting the President, Ban proceeded to Tacloban City to visit communities affected by Yolanda.
On Sunday morning, Ban will hold a joint press conference with Del Rosario at the Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati City prior to his departure. (SDR/Sunnex)
