PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III recently promoted Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) chief Rear Admiral Rodolfo Isorena to the rank of vice admiral.
Coast Guard Public Affairs chief Commander Armando Balilo said the chief executive approved and signed Isorena's promotion last January 3.
Isorena hails from Virac, Catanduanes and came from Philippine Military Academy (PMA) "Sandigan" Class of 1982. He started his military career right after his graduation and has been assigned to the PCG since 1993.
Isorena is the 25th Commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard and succeeded Vice Admiral Edmund Tan, who retired from the service last December 15, 2012.
Prior to his designation as the PCG Commandant, he was previously the commander of the Coast Guard Fleet, the largest unit of the PCG composed of highly technical and specialized operating units such as Coast Guard Aviation Group, Coast Guard Ready Force (all sea and air assets of PCG), Special Operations Group and Coast Guard K-9.
Vice Admiral Isorena also held four Coast Guard Districts as district commander and was also entrusted positions in the major commands of the PCG, such as Coast Guard Education and Training Command and has served as the Chief of Coast Guard Staff of the Philippine Coast Guard.
Isorena expressed his gratitude to the military's commander-in-chief for bestowing him another star rank. He said the PCG will continue to demonstrate excellence in rendering valuable services to the Filipino people. (Sunnex)
