THREE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) officers and a courier service employee testified against Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao regarding the alleged P2.2 billion-tax evasion case in a hearing held at the Court of Tax Appeal first division in Quezon City on Thursday.

BIR officers Vilma Clemente, Amelita Aquino and Cynthia Catolico and an employee of LBC courier service disclosed how Pacquiao was not able to file the necessary documents regarding his taxes.

According to the BIR officers, they sent the documents where the final decision of disputed assessment (FDDA) was written through LBC, a local courier. The FDDA contains the amount of tax Pacquiao should settle.

The BIR officers added that they personally went to the Pacquiao's office in the House of the Representative but failed to talk directly to the Saranggani representative. They have talked to his staff instead.

Meanwhile, the Pacquiao couple was represented by lawyer Michael Garcia.

Garcia questioned the credibility of the witnesses, especially on how the BIR sent the notification letters to his clients.

The BIR filed a case against the Pacquiao couple in 2013 for allegedly not being able to pay their taxes worth P2.2 billion for the fiscal years 2008 and 2009.

The presiding judge Roman Del Rosario scheduled another hearing on January 23 which requires the presence of the couple. (Sunnex)
