DAR denies links to Malampaya funds-A A +A

THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) on Wednesday denied its involvement in the P125 million Malampaya Gas fund misuse.
"The agency did not receive any amount from the Malampaya Fund since the PNoy (Aquino) administration started," said DAR Undersecretary Anthony Parungao.
Agrarian Reform Secretary Virgilio delos Reyes is co-respondent of President Benigno Aquino III and 10 other officials in the plunder case filed last Tuesday by the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) before the Office of the Ombudsman.
The complaint alleged that Malampaya funds were used non-existent projects of the fake non-government organizations of businesswoman Janet Napoles, the alleged architect of pork barrel scam.
Parungao said that the timeline of the fund usage can show that the fund released for the agency was utilized in 2009 projects.
"After receiving reports that some of the supposed beneficiaries of the Malampaya Fund denied having received any financial assistance or support from the DAR back in 2009, the Office of the Secretary immediately directed its internal audit service in November 2012 to conduct an investigation, which began the following month," he explained.
Aside from Aquino and delos Reyes, also facing the charge were Budget Secretary Florencio Abad and nine others. (Sunnex)
