DESPITE the criticisms President Benigno Aquino III and his administration have received from netizens and political opponents for their alleged slow action during the aftermath of the Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) last November, the President still got a “very good” rating from the typhoon victims based on the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) survey.

In the survey conducted from December 11 to 16, Yolanda victims who comprised around 13 percent of Filipino families gave the Chief Executive a +54 net satisfaction rating which is equivalent to “very good.”

“The December 2013 survey found higher satisfaction ratings for President Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III among victims of Yolanda compared to those who were not victimized by the super typhoon,” the survey study stated.

In the regular press briefing, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said that the latest result of the SWS survey was a manifestation of support to government’s continuing efforts to help them rebuild their lives and build disaster-resilient communities.

"It is gratifying that those who suffered greatly appreciate what their President and their government have done to ease their pain and alleviate their plight despite the shortcomings and challenges still being hurdled," Coloma said.

SWS also said that among the Yolanda victims, 73 percent were satisfied and while the remaining 19 percent were dissatisfied from Aquino’s performance during the early part of the rescue and relief efforts.

In addition, the survey showed that for those who are not affected by Yolanda’s wrath, 69 percent of them were satisfied while 21 percent were not contented with the President’s performance which is equivalent to +48 satisfaction rating or “good."

Meanwhile, 72 percent of Yolanda survivors rate themselves as poor, 16 percent on the “borderline,” while 12 percent of them see themselves as “not poor.”

The survey firm has used the face-to-face interviews of 1,550 adults in the National Capital Region (NCR) (300), the Balance of Luzon (300), Visayas (650), and Mindanao (300). The agency noted that the margins of error of the survey is at ±2.5 percent for national percentages, ±4 percent for Visayas, and ±6 percent for NCR, Balance Luzon and Mindanao. (SDR/Sunnex)
