PNP arrests 48 suspects in January-A A +A

FORTY-EIGHT people, including three notorious hired guns, were arrested in different parts of the country last month, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported Tuesday.
The PNP said a total of 28 people were arrested for gun possession, 13 for extortion and seven alleged gun-for-hire group members.
Chief Superintendent Benjamin Magalong, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) acting director, said that among the most important arrests were those of Emmanuel Peñalosa Villanueva in Quezon on January 10 and of Mario Aquilla Sidan on January 13 in Laguna.
Villanueva and Sidan were alleged members of Reyes group suspected to be involved in robbery hold-up and gun-for hire activities in the Laguna.
"They were also the prime suspects in the killing of San Pablo City Councilor and radio commentator Edgardo Dc Adajar and his driver-bodyguard Leonado Ronaldo on January 2 in San Pablo City, Laguna," Mangalong said.
Recovered from their possession were assorted firearms, ammunition and explosives.
Another important arrest, said Magalong, was that Willie Francisco on January 6 at the San Antonio Village, Matina, Davao City.
Francisco has been identified as the leader of the Willie "Tisoy" Francisco group, which is allegedly a gunrunning syndicate responsible in the proliferation of homemade and unlicensed firearms in Davao Region.
In the said operation, several high powered firearms, ammunition, and various parts used in assembling homemade and unlicensed firearms were seized.
Also arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition were Rogelio Labordo, Jessie Labordo, Richard Leal, and Jiger Labordo in Iloilo and Primitivo Estacio Galang in Nueva Ecija.(Sunnex)
