SENATOR Nancy Binay on Tuesday defended her sister, Makati City Representative Mar-Len Abigail Binay, who was criticized by netizens for winning a condominium unit raffled off by an upscale mall.
Speaking to reporters, Binay said she was surprised that her sister's luck in the Christmas raffle of Makati-based Power Plant Mall created so much controversy.
"Yoon nga din kinagulat ko kasi pati ba naman yung pagkapanalo sa raffle ginagawan ng issue? Parang I think first time lang ata ito na porket nanalo kahit sa isang legitimate (raffle) at aboveboard naman," Binay said.
The senator said she is yet to talk her sister on what the latter intends to do on the studio unit, which is located at The Grove in Barangay Ugong, Pasig City.
Binay shared she also used to fill out coupons at the same mall hoping to win one of the prizes raffled off.
"Ako dati tyinatiyaga ko yang sa Rockwell kasi maganda talaga yung prize dyan sa Power Plant eh kaso lang talagang walang swerte so tinamad na rin ako mag fill-up eh yung sister ko talaga medyo matiyaga sumali," she said.
"I think nanalo din siya ng TV one time so talagang medyo swerte talaga siya," the senator added.
Binay said the raffle did not restrict government officials from joining.
"Wala naman restriction doon na government official ka or anak ka ng Vice President, bawal ka na sumali sa raffle," she said adding that her father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, always purchases lotto tickets.
"So what if nanalo siya (Vice President Binay) sa lotto? Parang magiging questionable yung pagka-panalo niya," she said. (Sunnex)
