Thursday, February 13, 2014
MAJORITY of the Filipinos would choose a partner who is not good looking but can make them smile or laugh because of their good sense of humor, a survey released recently showed.
Just in time for Valentine's day, the Social Weather Services (SWS) released the result of the study it conducted during the last quarter of 2013, which shows that 90 percent of adult Filipinos choose "A man/woman who is ugly/unattractive but can make you laugh or has sense of humor," while only 10 percent choose "A man/woman who is good-looking but has no sense of humor."
Here are the casual answers of some Filipinos when asked by Sun.Star on why they value humor over good looks.
"Dun na ako sa not good looking pero my sense kausap kasi kapag ganun pwedeng my bago akong matutunan at kapag ganung tao masarap kasama at ma-eenjoy ko yung araw with him." -- Kaye Costales, 28, single mother of two
"I'll go with good sense of humor but not that ugly naman. Mas okay sa akin pag may meaningful conversation kasi marami matututunan. Kesa ‘yung puro looks lang. Wala naman kenta kausap. Pag tagal tagal nakakasawa din. Pang display lang." -- Randy Bautista, 26, single
"Dun ako sa with good sense of humor. Besides, those dudes who has a sense of humor automatically becomes hot." -- Jessica Camille Torres, 24, single
"I'll go for the good sense of humor. Oo model ka nga ng FHM kung wala naman kayong mapaguusapan, awkward lang." -- Jhun Sapnu, 22, single
"Iba pa rin ang masarap kausap, there’s no dull moment kung baga." -- Kariza San Blas, 22, single
But for Dianallyn Tan, 23, she would go for someone who has a good sense of humor but who is also good looking.
"'Dun ako sa with good sense of humor pero hindi 'din naman 'yung ganun 'kapangit' kasi siyempre somehow 'yung charm of having good looks is different pa din, nakakawala ng stress after a long day," she said.
In the SWS survey, woman who would go for someone who has a good sense of humor is relatively higher than men who looked for the said trait, 94 percent and 86 percent, respectively.
"'Yung iba naman kasi trophy ang hanap hindi partner, gusto nila 'yung hindi sila mahihiyang ipakilala sa mga kaibigan nila at 'yung hindi sila mahihiya na ipakita sa mga tao," Bautista said.
"Siyempre iba pa din ang maganda kasi magiging tingin din sayo ng tao gwapo ka din," said Jerico Valenzuela, 25, single.
But, what really is the reason why most people would choose sense of humor than having good looks?
Mary Grace de Guzman, who is married with partner Christopher de Guzman for 11 years, said that in a relationship having a good humor is important in a sense that you would not have a hard time getting to know each other.
"We're husband and wife but at same time were good friends, sa experience ko sa married life ko masasabi ko na to be able to be happy sa isang relasyon dapat kahit matagal na maganda parin ang mga conversation niyo dahil pag tumanda na at tumagal na kayo sabi nga pag nawala ang romance 'yung friendship ang mag-stay sa mga puso ninyo," she said.
"Bonus nalang pag good-looking din ang partner mo," she added.
The SWS survey interviewed 1,550 adult from Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao which has a 97.5 percent confidence level. (Sunnex)
