MANUFACTURERS and distributors of Do-It-Yourself (DIY) and Hobby products are being advised by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to register their products on or before May 2 in order to avoid being declared as illegal in the country.

According to FDA Advisory 2014-012, the agency is giving them more than two months to secure registration or else face penalties and sanctions, as provided by the FDA Act of 2009.

"After the said date, the sale, offer for sale or use, import, export, advertisement, or promotion of unregistered products shall be prohibited," said the FDA.

It said that only those establishments that have valid License to Operate (LTO) can apply for product registration with the Center for Cosmetic Regulation and Research (CCRR).

The advisory was issued after the FDA noted that the one-year registration amnesty it gave non-compliant Do-It-Yourself and Hobby Products is already set to expire on May 2.

To note, DIY and hobby products are classified as classified as Category IV Household/Urban Hazardous Substances (HUHS) by Republic Act 9711.

So far, the FDA said there are only 32 Do-It-Yourself and Hobby Products made by six companies currently registered with the FDA.
