THE alleged architect of the multi-billion peso Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam, Janet Lim-Napoles, is high-risk detainee with or without threat to her life, a police official said Thursday.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Chief Superintendent Theodore Sindac clarified in a press briefing the alleged "special treatment" given to Napoles when she was brought to the PNP General Hospital for medical check-up last Wednesday.

"With or without the death threat that would be our treatment, unless ma-downgrade yung categorization sa kanya. Ito ang basis na nandoon ang banta sa kanyang buhay, we have to take it as that," he said.

Sindac said Napoles remains as a high profile detainee due to the information and the knowledge that she holds regarding the pork barrel controversy, which involves current and past government officials.

"Similar sa bomb threat, 'pag may tawag, we have to take it as a legitimate bomb threat," Sindac added.

Napoles is currently detained at the Fort Sto. Domingo in Laguna for serious illegal detention of pork barrel scam whistleblower Benhur Luy.

However, Sindac admitted that keeping Napoles in a private detention facility is costly and transferring her in a regular cell would mean a big savings for the PNP.

Sindac said the government is spending P150,000 a month for keeping Napoles detained in Laguna while it spends P120,000 each time she would go out of the camp to attend hearings in Makati City.

"Let us not limit ourselves in the Makati City Jail, there are other options also, pwede i-recommend more economical and more efficient, like Bicutan jail, National Capital Region Police Office or custodial center with high profile detainees," he said.

Sindac said it would be cheaper if Napoles will be detained in a regular jail but the detention for her transfer rests with the court.

"Well that would be the call of the prosecutor or the defense, as well as the court. Bilang law enforcers, ang kautusan ng korte ay siya rin naming tutuparin," he said. (Sunnex)
