THE amount paid for the rental of an ultrasound machine for the medical check-up of alleged pork barrel scam architect Janet Lim-Napoles was P5,000, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.
In press briefing, PNP-Health Services director Chief Superintendent Alejandro Advincula Jr. denied allegations that the agency spent P120,000 since the ultrasound machine rent was only P5,000.
On February 26, Napoles underwent several medical examinations, including trans-vaginal ultrasound, at the PNP general hospital after complaining abdominal pain and gynecological bleeding in late last year.
Prior to the medical checkup, Advincula had said the PNP General Hospital has the instruments needed to accommodate Napoles' medical tests.
"Sinabi ko 'yon kasi we though na we have a health service provider na willing naman na magpahiram sa amin ng gamit anytime we need it," he said.
Advincula said the PNP rented the trans-vaginal ultrasound from the Health Venue, which is a multi-specialty clinic and diagnostic center in Quezon City.
"Kahit sino naman ang mangailangan ng machine na wala kami dito, we'll do the same thing, magrerent pa din kami. Sa case kasi ni Mrs. Napoles, sinunod lang namin ang utos ng korte na dito gawin ang check-up niya," PNP health services director said.
Meanwhile, the actual cost of the medical examination performed on Napoles reached around P8,000 despite earlier claim by Advincula that the medical tests could only cost around P3,000. (Sunnex)
