AN ITALIAN national was nabbed by authorities in a resort in Laguna on Sunday allegedly for child trafficking, a police official said Monday.

In a media briefing, Binan City Police Station officer in charge Superintendent Noel Alino said the foreigner was arrested by the tourist police assigned in Splash Island Resort after receiving reports from concerned citizens that he brought three male minors to the place without any guardian or even consent from their parents.

Initial investigation conducted by the Binan City Police Women and Children's desk revealed that the minors were seen by Liliy Flordelis and Catherin Scerri of Bahay Tuluyan Foundation, a non-government organization (NGO) protecting street children.

The two NGO officers said they noticed the foreigner's act of touching and caressing the kids while they were playing in the resort's swimming pool. They believed that something wrong was happening between the children and the alleged suspect.

After having notice the foreigner's suspicious affection towards the kids, the two asked the minors regarding their relationship to the alleged suspect and the minor answered "My Daddy" while the other one said "Wala po" (Nothing).

At that point, Scerri said she confronted the Italian national and asked about his relationship with the children and he answered that he is not related to any of the kids and that they were street children he brought from Manila.

Flordelis and Scerri were alarmed of what they knew so they seek the help of the duty police officers in the resort.

"The foreigner was too suspicious about his true intentions to the kids who are all male and minors without being accompanied by their relative or guardians," the NGO told the police.

Responding police officers immediately held the alleged suspect and brought him to the police station with the three minors for questioning.

"They were street children that I had brought from Manila and they were the one who told their parents," the Italian told police.

The children said they were picked-up by the foreigner in Caloocan and he brought them to his house in Quezon City where they were personally bathed by the alleged suspect. He brought them to the resort because they told him that they want to go swimming.

"Ang kwento pa nung mga bata pag nag-iinit daw ang ulo nung lalake kunwari traffic inuutusan daw silang halikan siya," the police said.

The Binan City police called the office of the Ambassador of Italy in the Philippines to inform them about the arrested Italian national.

The alleged suspect is currently in the custody of the local police facing possible charges of violation of anti-child abuse and anti-trafficking person laws while the three minors were turned-over to the City Social Welfare Development (CSWD) for proper disposition. (Sunnex)
