GOVERNMENT security forces on Friday arrested an alleged member of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao, an official said in a belated report Tuesday.

Yogi Ruiz, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) director in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm), said the anti-drug surveillance operation conducted by the authorities in Barangay Sapakan village on May 9 turned into a gunfight after at least 10 members of the BIFF led by one Commander Marrox fired shots against them.

He identified the arrested BIFF member as Datu Naut Sailila.

Ruiz said that aside from his firearms, the authorities also seized a sachet of suspected illegal drugs from the arrested suspect.

"Dahil sa naturang pag-aresto unti-unting nakukumpirma ang mga impormasyong nakukuha ng PDEA na may mga gumagamit ng droga sa hanay ng BIFF bilang pantawid gutom at pampalakas ng loob," he said.

The bandit group was able to escape after a 30-minute gunfight with government troops.

Ruiz said the PDEA, police and military continue to conduct pursuit operation to arrest the escaped BIFF members and to confirm their activities in connection with illegal drugs. (Sunnex)
