A GOVERNMENT soldier was wounded in an encounter with alleged members of the New People's Army (NPA) in Bukidnon on Tuesday, a military official said.

Captain Alberto Caber, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson, said the military launched operations around 5 a.m. after having received complaints from the locals of Sitio Kalangan, San Vicente in Bukidnon that undetermined numbers of NPA rebels were allegedly conducting extortion activities in the said area.

A 20-minute firefight ensued when the rebels fired their guns towards the responding government troops.

"'Yung sundalo natin na nasugatan nasa mabuti na siyang kalagayan ngayon while hindi pa natin madetermine kung may nasugatan sa side ng mga NPA," Caber said. (Sunnex)
