MANILA -- Detained Senator Juan Ponce Enrile was brought Saturday morning to the Asian Eye Institute in Makati City to have his regular eye check-up.

The one-hour hospital visit of Enrile was for the treatment of his macular degeneration, a condition that usually affects older adults.

A medicine was injected on his right eye, which will help prevent the senator from going blind, said the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Enrile's security convoy left the PNP General Hospital around 7 a.m.

An hour later, Enrile was returned to his hospital suite in Camp Crame, where he was confined since Friday night after he surrendered on plunder and graft charges in relation to the pork barrel fund scam.

On Friday, the Sandiganbayan third division issued separate arrest warrants against Enrile, his former aide Jessica "Gigi" Reyes, John Raymund de Asis, Ronald John Lim, and Janet Napoles, the alleged mastermind of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam.

During medical examination, the 90-year-old senator was diagnosed with hypertension, vertigo, anemia and high cholesterol level and was advised to be admitted at a hospital for his medical condition.

Enrile was charged with plunder and graft for allegedly amassing P172 million in pork barrel kickbacks from 2003 to 2010.

The court found probable cause for the case against Enrile to proceed.

Enrile was the last among the three senators who were ordered arrested by the anti-graft court in relation to alleged misuse of their PDAF.

Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon Revilla Jr. are now detained in the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) will return Enrile’s arrest warrant to the Sandiganbayan on Monday.

Meanwhile, Reyes has been detained at the basement jail of the Sandiganbayan pending her commitment to a Quezon City jail. (Sunnex)
