PHL exports nearly 1M kilos of processed meat from January to May

THE Philippine meat processing sector has produced P200 billion in sales turnover and has generated some 100,000 direct and derivative jobs for the first five months to May this year, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said Thursday.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala also disclosed that the country has exported a total of 927,592 kilos of canned and processed meat during the same period.

From the total volume of these exported products, hotdog and corned beef account for 58.42 percent and 17.18 percent, respectively, while other assorted processed products shared 24.40 percent, he added.

With the huge sales and the jobs created by this sector, Alcala underscored the importance and contribution of the meat processing industry in the country. (SDR/Sunnex)
