SENATOR Antonio Trillanes IV said Thursday that he was not appalled on the possibility of Vice President Jejomar Binay becoming a president in 2016.

Trillanes filed a resolution seeking an investigation into the alleged overpriced Makati City Hall 2 building built during the terms of Binay as then mayor and his son, current mayor Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" Binay.

"It is part of my job," Trillanes said in a television interview. "If there is an issue, it should be investigated," he added.

On July 22, lawyer Renato Bondal and Nicholas Enciso IV filed a multi-billion peso plunder complaint against the current officials of Makati City, including Mayor Binay, and the Vice President with the Office of the Ombudsman. The complainants believed that the P2.7 billion price tag was too expensive for a city hall building.

Bondal said on Wednesday that the 11-storey parking building was overpriced by three times the average industry price per square meter for building construction.

Prior to the filing of the plunder complaint, Trillanes filed Senate Resolution 826 seeking an investigation on the "overpriced" building of the Makati City Government.

"If I abandon my country right now under such a presidency, then, nobody will be left to stand up to a Binay presidency," Trillanes said.

"I've been through worse. I was a senator in jail," said Trillanes, who was detained for plotting a coup d’état against the Arroyo presidency.

When asked if he would file a presidential candidacy on 2016, Trillanes said that he had not yet decided whether he would be fielded or not as a presidential or vice presidential bet.

Meanwhile, Vice President Binay expressed dismay on the ongoing investigation on the alleged overpricing of the Makati City Hall Building 2.

Binay said in an interview that he was saddened since it was obvious that the probe was a "political move." He said Trillanes pushed for investigation into the parking building after he discovered that the Vice President was planning to run for presidency. (Sunnex)
