'Kabayan' claims 2 lives
MANILA -- Two people in the province of Nueva Ecija and Aurora died at the height of Tropical Storm Kabayan, the Central Luzon Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) reported.
The RDRRMC identified the fatalities as Raquel Camilo, 57, of Barangay Luzsok, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija, who died due to snakebite, and Samuel Corcoro, 29, of Barangay Debuco, Maria, Aurora, who died due to drowning.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Council (NDDRMC) also reported that two persons were injured in Ilocos Region, while 63 others remained missing in Ilocos and Central Luzon.
The NDRRMC said that Kabayan, which is now outside the Philippine area of responsibility, has also affected 4,565 families or 22.368 people in the provinces of La Union, Aurora, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Zambales.
Of these, some 1,391 families or 6,480 people have been staying in seven evacuation centers, while a total of 50 barangays are still flooded in the provinces of Pangasinan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Pampanga.
Damage to property and agriculture was estimated at P1,120,716.59 -- a total of P4,101.34 in Pangasinan and P1,116,615.25 in Aurora.
The storm also damaged a total of 131 houses in Central Luzon, said the NDRRMC.
The agency said that assistance has been provided to affected families and individuals, with relief goods and medicines distributed in Aurora, Bulacan and Nueva Ecija. (PNA/Sunnex)
