PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has been “very transparent” about his health condition and does not need to undergo a medical examination and disclose the results, Malacañang said Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella assured that the 71-year-old chief executive is “in the pink of health.”
“People ask, ‘Should we have a medical bulletin?’ But I think he’s so transparent about himself,” Abella said.
“Based on the results, he seem[s] to be going very, very well. Apparently, he draws strength from his inner source of well being. I don’t know where he gets it but he certainly has. He’s in the pink of health,” he added.
Abella issued the statement amid lawmakers’ calls on the Palace to fully disclose to the public the health condition of Duterte, after his admission that he has health problems.
The presidential spokesperson said Duterte is doing well as he could keep going despite the hectic schedule every day.
“Those working hours that he has are amazing. He goes beyond the mere eight hours, he goes to 14 [hours], he goes to 16 hours and still keeps going…So in a sense, this is where we have the benefit of an extremely transparent President and so, he keeps us updated,” he said.
Duterte earlier revealed that he is suffering from several health problems, including Barrett’s esophagus and Buerger’s disease.
He also admitted that there were times when he had to use two Fentanyl patches, a known narcotic pain medicine to treat severe chronic pain, to make him feel better.
But Abella said the public could take him “seriously but not literally.”
Asked then if there is a need to release a medical bulletin on the President, Abella said: “What’s the point? What do you trust, the paper or his actions. You know, you see him, he’s all over the place.” (Sunnex)
