Aguirre orders NBI probe on QC prosecutor's slay

Wednesday, January 11, 2017

JUSTICE Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has ordered an investigation into the death on Wednesday morning of a prosecutor in Quezon City.

In a text message, Aguirre said he directed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into the killing of Quezon City Prosecutor Noel Mingao, a former associate of the Justice Secretary.

Mingao was shot dead in front of a restaurant along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City while he was talking to someone on his cellphone.

Aguirre described the public prosecutor as "a very good man and a very competent litigator."

In October, Aguirre also ordered a conduct of a parallel probe into the killing of Mati, Davao Oriental prosecutor Rolando Acido.

The National Prosecution Service had previously condemned the "cowardly and senseless killing" of Acido on October 26.

Acido, who suffered from paralysis because of stroke, was shot dead while on his way to work. (Sunnex)
