PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald Dela Rosa said Monday that he and House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez remain "in good terms" even after the latter called for his resignation.
On Friday, Alvarez said Dela Rosa should resign to spare President Rodrigo Duterte from embarrassment and restore the public’s respect to the PNP, following the kidnapping and killing of South Korean businessman Jee Ick-joo allegedly by members of the PNP.
The victim’s killing was reportedly done inside Camp Crame.
“The number one who called for my resignation, si Speaker Alvarez, andun din naman kagabi, nag-usap kami. We had a private conversation, so okay na,” said Dela Rosa.
Alvarez attended Dela Rosa’s birthday celebration on Sunday, which was held in Camp Crame.
After several calls to vacate his post, Dela Rosa rendered his resignation to Duterte, who then refused to accept it.
"He stays there. Bato (Dela Rosa) has my complete trust," Duterte said.
Dela Rosa said that what matters most is that Duterte's trust is still with him.
“Basta, it was very clear last night. Basta pagpasok ni Presidente doon, kinausap ko siya. ‘Sir they are calling for my resignation. Ano magresign na ako?’ Sabi niya: ‘No, Magtrabaho ka’” he said. (SunStar Philippines)
