ONE of the suspects in the "rent-sangla" scheme was shot dead by an unidentified motorcycle-riding assailant in front of her residence in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna on Wednesday, police said Thursday.
Sta. Rosa Police chief Joel Estaris identified the victim as Eleonor Rosales, secretary of Rafaela Anunciacion, the alleged mastermind in the rent-sangla scheme that victimized hundreds of car owners.
A CCTV footage of the incident showed Rosales was about to enter her house after alighting from her sports utility vehicle around 3:40 p.m., when two motorcycle-riding assailants appeared and shot her.
Rosales died instantly due to multiple gunshot wounds in her head and body.
Estaris said they recovered four spent shells at the crime scene.
Estaris said it appeared that the suspects were tailing the victim, who came from the City Prosecutors' Office in Sta. Rosa for the preliminary investigation of the syndicated estafa cases filed against her along with three other cohorts in the alleged car rental scam.
Rosales allegedly helped Anunciacion convince car owners to join in their supposed car rental business in exchange of monthly income, not knowing that their vehicles were actually being pawned to other people.
The gunman in Rosale's murder could not be identified in the CCTV footage as he was wearing a face mask, while the motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet to cover his face. (SunStar Philippines)
