SWS: Duterte administration's satisfaction rating improves

THE net satisfaction rating of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte improved by five percentage points during the first quarter of this year, according to pollster Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Duterte administration's "very good" +66 net satisfaction rating was an improvement from his +61 net satisfaction rating in December 2016.

The survey conducted from March 25 to 28 showed that 75 percent expressed satisfaction of the Duterte administration's performance, while nine percent were dissatisfied and 16 percent were undecided.

The SWS said 1,200 respondents took part in the nationwide survey.

Of the 15 performance issues covered in the survey, only the government's efforts in helping the poor received a "very good" +63 net satisfaction rating.

All the rest yielded a "good" net satisfaction rating. These were: Developing science and technology +49; fighting terrorism +47; defending the country’s territorial rights +46; and providing jobs +43.

The Filipinos also rated "good" the performance of the government in fulfilling the campaign promises of the President.

Fighting crime got +41 net satisfaction rating, while eradicating graft and corruption got +39; solving the problem of extrajudicial killings +37; foreign relations and reconciliation with communist rebels +32; foreign relations, +46; and reconciliation with Muslim rebels, +33.

The government, meanwhile, received "moderate" rating in ensuring that no family will ever be hungry, as well as in fighting inflation, recovering the alleged "hidden wealth" of the Marcoses, and resolving the traffic woes.

The SWS said Duterte maintains an "excellent" +79 net satisfaction rating in Mindanao, while the Visayas and Luzon yielded "very good" +67 and +60 net satisfaction ratings, respectively. (SunStar Philippines)
