SENATOR Manny Pacquiao will remain the "people's champion" amid his loss in the WBO welterweight match against Jeff Horn in Brisbane, Australia on Sunday.

This is what Malacañang spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement after the the judges announced that Horn won via unanimous decision.

"Nothing will change: Senator Manny will remain our people's champ, pambansang kamao and national treasure in global sports," Abella said.

The Palace added that Pacquiao's loss will not diminish the honors he had brought the country.

"Manny Pacquiao's loss in Brisbane would not diminish the honors he bestowed to the people and to the flag."

Malcañang has also thanked the Filipino people for the support they have given the boxer.

The decision on the Pacquiao-Horn bout was met with oppositions online, with many saying the people's champ was "robbed" as he "clearly" won the fight.

Pacquiao just shrugged off his supporters' claim, saying he will not question the decision and that Horn deserves to win the title. (SunStar Philippines)
