VACC’s impeach raps vs Sereno fails to get House panel nod

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

THE second impeachment raps against Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno was junked by House justice committee Wednesday, September 13, after the majority of the panel members found it insufficient in form.

Twenty-eight members of the panel voted to shoot down the complaint for using the wrong form, effectively terminating the proceeding towards the determination of its substance.

The complainants used a verification form for complaints endorsed by one-third members of the House, and not the form for complaints filed by private individuals.

Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) filed the complaint last September 4, with the endorsement of 16 lawmakers.

The verified complaint was deliberated Wednesday after the approval of another impeachment raps filed by lawyer Larry Gadon.

Gadon's complaint was able to satisfy the panel’s standard for form and substance.

VACC's founding chair Dante Jimenez said he will seek the panel's permission for another chance to file the complaint upon correcting their error.

"If we could still rectify this form, because first time kaming mag-file ng impeachment complaint against the Chief Justice, we will coordinate with the committee on justice on how we will be able to rectify this," Jimenez said. (SunStar Philippines)
