MANILA (Updated) -- The House of Representatives committee on justice on Thursday, October 5, said the impeachment complaint filed by lawyer Lorenzo Gadon contains sufficient grounds to oust Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
By a vote of 25-2, the committee led by Mindoro Oriental Representative Reynaldo Umali approved the motion of Misamis Occidental Representative Henry Oaminal finding sufficient grounds for Sereno's impeachment.
Dinagat Island Representative Arlene "Kaka" Bag-ao objected to Oaminal's motion stressing that points raised in Gadon's complaints were not lacked bases and not impeachable offenses.
The panel recently found the complaint sufficient in form and substance.
Gadon accused Sereno of concealing part of her wealth from her Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net worth, unilaterally deciding on some of the high court's matters, and living a lavish lifestyle by purchasing a P5-million vehicle.
But Sereno's camp said all the allegations against her were "baseless." (SunStar Philippines)
